Skincare Routine Steps

1. Precleanse (oil cleanser)

  • Removes makeup
  • Absorbs excess oil/sebum
  • Prepares skin for a deeper cleanse

I know, using oil sounds like it can be breakout inducing. But oil cleansers actually benefit oily (and ALL) skin types. The oil cleanser mixes and grabs onto your excess oil and sebum. Then when you lightly blend water into the mixture, it creates a foamy texture that is easily rinsed off. And no, it won’t make your skin oily, or feel greasy if you use the right products.

If your worried about picking a suitable product, I recommend Dermalogica’s Precleanse. It’s a safe choice for those who have sensitive or inflamed skin.

2. Cleanse

Pretty basic step, just follow the precleanse with a cleanser that suits your skin type. This step removes impurities and prepares your skin for treatments. Personally, I recommend staying away from cleansers that address acne or other skin concerns. There are more steps that will address your problem areas and treat it properly.

3. Exfoliate

  • Removes dead skin cells
  • Increases new cell growth
  • Creates smoother skin texture

There are multiple ways to exfoliate, but it’s critical that you start with a micro exfoliant first, before you try something that could ruin your skin. This is where the cell renewal factor comes in. You want to exfoliate daily, so as your skin becomes “stronger”, you can work your way up to receiving Chemical Peels.

4. Electric modalities (microcurrent, high frequency, etc)

You can skip this step if you don’t have any ‘skin tech tools’. But for those of you who do, it is best to do this right after exfoliation and before masking (unless you need a mask for your tool). This way nothing disrupts the current.

5. Masking

The most favorite step of them all! And yes, you are allowed to apply more than one mask.

(Tip: Make sure to apply the masks in order, if you are using more than one.)

Example: First apply clay mask that draws out impurities/excess oil. Rinse. Secondly, apply the treatment mask focused on your skin concern. (like an anti aging mask). Rinse. Lastly apply a hydrating/calming mask. Rinse.

6. Toner

  • Balances PH
  • Prepares the skin for proper product absorption
  • Adds hydration and can calms the skin (depending on your product)

7. Serums

Remember to apply these before your moisturizer, or else the moisturizer will make it much harder for the serums to effectively penetrate and treat the skin.

8. Moisturizer

  • Adds and maintains the skins hydration
  • Balances the skins oil-water content
  • prevents overproduction of oil
  • protects skin from harmful elements

9. SPF of ATLEAST 30

Sun damage is the main cause of premature aging. Wearing spf daily will not only prevent the signs of aging, it protects us from skin damage and skin cancer.

**Plus, a lot of skin care brands that make spf include additional benefits for the skin!
